Therapy for Women's Issues

  • Focusing on concerns particular to women, from adolescence to old age, such as body image, care taking, career and family balance, sexual abuse and self-care.

Women's lives in today's society are complex. Whether mid-life or later and trying to reclaim independence or revive a once-successful career after an extended leave of absence, or mid-teen or twentysomething just coming in to her own and establishing her identity, the challenges are many. Unrealistic expectations of women's bodies. Impossible standards for women's multiple roles as mother, wife and care-taker. Unachievable levels of work-life balance. All of these issues contribute to a woman's diminished sense of self and quality of life. Fortunately, therapy can be a very successful antidote to the distortions these issues create.

I devote a significant portion of my practice to dealing with women's issues. Focusing on concerns about body image, care taking, career and family balance, sexual abuse and self-care, this is a specialty I take particular joy in working through with my patients. Emphasizing a relational model, I encourage the women I counsel to achieve a sense of balance and control over their lives - while also learning to factor in their own needs.

Understanding Women's Issues Therapy

Women's issues therapy is not about placing blame on males for the challenges that women face. Rather, it is about empowering women to take control of their lives by learning to balance their own wants and needs with those of others and recognizing and accepting themselves for who they truly are.
